The MINITRAC 31 is a radiation-based sensor for non-contact density measurement of liquids and bulk solids. The MINITRAC 31 determines the density from outside through pipelines or the vessel wall. Through its compact design it is ideal for mounting in positions hard to access and in narrow space applications.

The point detector determines the density of liquids and bulk solids from the outside without contact. The sensor is used on vessels of any geometry and on pipelines.
Pipeline in the liquor recovery process
The black liquor resulting from pulp cooking is regenerated and fed back into the digester. Liquor regeneration comprises several process steps. The processes take place at high temperatures and pressures; the media are aggressive and sometimes abrasive. Density measurement of the liquor in the pipelines is required for eco-friendly and energy-efficient process control.
Extracted minerals are fed to the thickener as a slurry via a trough. The solids are settled out into the bottom of the tank, in a process accelerated through the addition of flocculants. Precise density measurement of the slurry underflow is necessary for effective control of the ore thickener.
Storage tanks for highly toxic liquids
For extremely toxic substances such as phosgene, absolute control over the process is a necessity. In industrial applications, these products are only used in hermetically closed circuits. To minimize the inherent risks, independent protection devices form an integral part of the tank equipment. Moreover, it is important to keep the number of tank openings as small as possible. An external level measuring system that includes point level detection is ideal for such situations.
It is important that a desalter unit runs efficiently to prevent corrosion to downstream equipment. When the crude oil mixes with the emulsifying chemicals and water, the resulting emulsion layer makes it difficult for standard level measurement technologies to reliably track the interface. Radiation-based measuring instruments are not affected by this and allow to track the interface even with thick emulsion layers present in the tank to make sure that the desalting process can be controlled efficiently at maximum throughput.
