Tunable Diode Laser Spectrometers

Tunable Diode Laser Spectrometers (TDLS) are laser-based gas analyzer with fast-update optical analysis. The TDLS line offers measurements for process gas, flue gas, impurity analysis, custody transfer, safety, with in-situ and extractive methods supported. In the chemical, power and refining industries, Yokogawa TDLS technology is acknowledged in a 2012 EPRI research study and the API 556 standard as the technology required for safe and environmentally responsible combustion applications.

The TDLS220 analyzer is specifically designed for accurate, reliable and low maintenance measurement of volume percent (vol%) oxygen in process gas streams. It is capable of measuring oxygen in a variety of process applications with gas temperatures up to 120 °C and pressures up to 100 psi under difficult conditions such as corrosive and aggressive service.

The TruePeak Tunable Diode Laser Spectroscopy (TDLS220) Analyzer is one of the most robust oxygen analyzers available.

Measurements are rapid (5 seconds) and interference free, offering improved accuracy when compared to other oxygen analyzers.

The TruePeak Tunable Diode Laser Spectroscopy (TDLS220) Analyzer (or TDLS) measurements are based on absorption spectroscopy. The TDLS220 TruePeak Analyzer is a TDLS system and operates by measuring the amount of laser light that is absorbed (lost) as it travels through the gas being measured.

In the simplest form a Tunable Diode Laser Spectroscopy (TDLS) analyzer consists of a laser that produces infrared light, optical lenses to focus the laser light through the gas to be measured and then on to a detector. The electronics that control the laser and translate the detector signal into values representing the gas concentration.

    • Fast Response (5 or 10 seconds)

  • Extractive Impurities Gas Analyzer TDLS500 (DISCONTINUED)

With the TDLS500 (ICOS) analyzer, rapid and continuous measurements are possible for the first time in a process hardened analyzer. Traditionally trace level analysis in process conditions has required the use of process gas chromatographs. The major drawback of this approach has been the analysis time required (typically minutes), and the fact that a continuous measurement is not possible.

Off-Axis Integrated Cavity Output Spectroscopy (ICOS) utilizes a high-finesse optical cavity as an absorption cell. Unlike conventional multipass arrangements which are typically limited to path lengths less than two-hundred meters, an Off-Axis ICOS absorption cell effectively traps the laser photons so that they make thousands of passes on average before leaving the cell. As a result, the effective optical path length may be several thousands of meters using high-reflectivity mirrors and thus the measured absorption of light after it passes through the optical cavity is significantly enhanced. For example, for a cell composed of two 99.99% reflectivity mirrors spaced by 25 cm, the effective optical path length is 2500 meters.

Since the pathlength depends only on optical losses in the cavity, and not on a unique beam trajectory (like conventional multipass cells or cavity- ringdown systems), the optical alignment is very robust allowing for reliable operation in the field.

As with conventional tunable-laser absorption-spectroscopy methods, the wavelength of the laser is tuned over a selected absorption feature of the target species. The measured absorption spectra is recorded and, combined with measured gas temperature and pressure in the cell, effective path length, and known line strength, used to determine a quantitative measurement of concentration. The TruePeak measurement integrates the area of the absorbance rather than measuring peak height or peak width value alone. This means you get a true interference free analysis. As well as speed of response, the fact that the ICOS analyzer uses a first principles measurement provides the ability to”prove” the measurement using live or historical spectra.

    • Fast Response (1-20 seconds)
    • High Sensitivity typically sub ppm detection limits
    • Interference Free for most applications Unlike other technologies there are typically NO interferences such as paramagnetic offsets or electrochemical interferences
    • Low LTCO no moving parts, high MTBF for component
    • Rugged Process Hardened Design The Yokogawa ICOS is designed for process conditions. The electronics are based on the proven TruePeak TDL design. Unlike traditional multipass or cavity ring down analyzers optical alignment is very robust (not dependant on unique beam trajectory)

  • TDLS80001

Yokogawa’s new TDLS8000 houses all of the industry’s leading features in one robust device. The platform design is for in situ measurements which negate the need for sample extraction and conditioning. The non-contacting sensor allows for a variety of process types including corrosive, abrasive and condensing. The first generation platform has been proven in many others for the measurements of O2, CO, CH4, NH3, H2O and many more NIR absorbing gases. This second generation platform has improved reliability and ease of installation and maintenance while still meeting or exceeding designed application demands.
