Thermal Gas Mass Flow Meters

Thermal gas mass flow meters provide accurate readings of the total mass flow rate of a gas in many industrial conditions. These flow meters utilize the thermal sensing principle, a proven, accurate and direct mass flow measurement technology. This technology performs at high levels of accuracy for a wide variety of gases.

    The Fox Model FT1 measures gas flow rate in standard units without the need for temperature or pressure compensation. It provides an isolated 4 to 20mA output (with a HART option) and a selection of pulse, RS485 Modbus RTU, or BACnet MS/TP for a second output. With an optional on-board 2-line x 16-character, backlit display, operators can view flow rate, total, elapsed time, process gas temperature, and alarms. The display is also used in conjunction with the Configuration Panel to access flow meter settings, such as 4-20mA and pulse output scaling, pipe diameter, zero flow cutoff, flow filtering (damping), display options, and high or low alarm limits.

    The Model FT1 is available in insertion and inline styles. The insertion style FT1 has a robust stainless steel probe and is easily installed by drilling a hole in the pipe and welding on a 1” NPT coupling. A Fox Thermalsupplied compression fitting secures the probe in place. It is supplied with 316 stainless steel wetted materials standard. Inline styles of the FT1 are available in both stainless steel and carbon steel with NPT and 150lb flange options. See Specification section for details on sizing. A USB port to connect to a computer or laptop is standard; interface options include HART, Modbus RTU (RS485) and BACnet MS/TP (RS485).

  • Fox_Model_FT2A_both_2018

    The Fox Model FT2A measures gas flow rate in standard units without the need for temperature or pressure compensation. It provides isolated 4 to 20 mA and pulse outputs for flow rate, and a 4 to 20 mA output for process gas temperature. The pulse output is normally used for totalization. With an on-board 2 line x 16 character, backlit display, operators can view flow rate, total, elapsed time, process gas temperature, and alarms. The display is also used in conjunction with the Configuration Panel to configure flow meter settings, pulse output frequency scaling, pipe area, zero flow cutoff, flow filtering (damping), display configurations, diagnostics and high or low alarm limits.

    The Fox FT2A is available in both insertion and in-line models. The insertion meter is easily installed by drilling a 3/4″ hole in the pipe and welding on a 3/4 inch NPT coupling. A Fox supplied compression fitting secures the probe in place. The inline model is available in 1/4 to 6 inch sizes and includes built in flow conditioners that eliminate the need for long, straight pipe runs. The meter can be ordered with flange or NPT end connections.

    Both models are supplied with 316 stainless steel wetted materials standard or Hastelloy C-276 as an option (inline flow bodies also available in carbon steel). A USB port to connect to a computer or laptop is standard; interface options include RS485-Modbus, BACnet MS/TP, Profibus-DP, DeviceNet or Ethernet Modbus TCP.

    The Fox Model FT3 measures two important process variables with a single instrument, providing isolated 4 to 20 mA and pulse outputs for flow rate, and a 4 to 20 mA pulse output for process gas temperature or a second flow rate output.

    Direct mass flow measurement, exceptional low-flow sensitivity, fast response, and low maintenance requirements distinguish the Fox Model FT3. Virtually immune to changes in temperature and pressure, the flow meter delivers repeatable, accurate mass flow measurement under varying loads. It’s rugged, no-moving-parts design is also ideal for high-vibration industrial environments, and enhanced EMI immunity makes it suitable for environments where electric motors, ignitors or dirty power may affect instrument performance.

    Fox Thermal Instruments knows that customers want creative and effective solutions to some of their common process problems. Downtime due to equipment maintenance or calibration costs money and wastes valuable time. Calibration Validation of flow meters in the field provides assurance of the functionality of the meter and avoids the downtime associated with annual calibrations.

    Used in succession, Fox’s CAL-V™ and Zero CAL-CHECK™ Tests can give you the reassurance that your meter is performing accurately in the field without the need to interrupt flow or send the meter back to the factory. The tests are quick and easy to perform at any time and help with the challenging requirements for measuring the flow of air and gases.

    The CAL-V™ feature is an in-situ calibration routine that validates the flow meter’s calibration accuracy by testing the functionality of the sensor and its associated signal processing circuitry. This innovative approach lets you validate instrument calibration in the pipe, at process conditions, with just a push of a button. At the conclusion of the test, the meter will display a pass/fail message and the CAL-V™ data is saved in the meter for look-up at any time. CAL-V™ is an operator-initiated test that can be performed at any flow rate, including zero, and is completed in just three to four minutes. During the test, the meter’s microprocessor adjusts the signal to the sensor elements and determines the resulting electrical characteristics. These site-determined characteristics are compared with the data that was collected and stored in the instrument electronics during the original factory calibration. Matching data within established tolerances confirms the meter is measuring accurately.

  • Fox FT4A

    The Model FT4A is calibrated with NIST traceable standards and includes our 2nd Generation DDC-Sensor™, CAL-V™ Calibration Validation, and HART or RS485 Modbus options. The Model FT4A is suitable for Industrial, Wastewater and Oil & Gas applications. The Gas-SelectX™ gas menus have been updated to include all upstream flare and vent gases (C1-C9+) required by BLM regulations and API standards.

    The Model FT4X is the newest Fox Meter and calibrated with NIST traceable standards. It includes our 2nd Generation DDC-Sensor™, CAL-V™ Calibration Validation, HART or RS485 Modbus options. The model also includes the new Data Logger with 40 24-hour daily totals. The Model FT4X is suitable for Industrial, Wastewater and Oil & Gas applications. The Gas-SelectX™ gas menus are all updated. Also, they include all upstream flare and vent gases (C1-C9+) that BLM regulations and API standards require.
